Saul Gerber, Clinical Psychologist
Saul is interested in what creates a positive and helpful experience for the patient in therapy. Therapy offers a type of human connection that is meant to benefit the client.
Saul did his Masters research on this issue and found that it showed that the most important element that predicts change and growth in the client, is whether they are able to trust the therapist and feel supported on a genuine level. Another element to therapy is the motivation of the patient themselves. Whilst the ”model” or type of therapy is also important, it is not the key. Having said this, Saul is trained in a number of approaches to therapy including CBT, Schema Therapy and Psycho-dynamic. There is no one size fits all and each client needs a different approach.
People seek therapy for many different reasons. Some need to be simply understood and heard, some seek insight and exploration into the parts of themselves that remain unknown, and others need to focus on practical issues and find strategies for difficult situations. Saul is well equipped, as a therapist, to help in these ways.
Saul works in a collaborative, empathetic way to help people deal with a range of personal, behavioural and psychological issues. He is an experienced couples counsellor and also helps families who are having adjustment or communication issues. He is a published researcher who has guest lectured and taught at University level in the area of drug dependence and treatment.
Saul is able to assist with issues including;
- Anxiety – panic or constant worry
