Do I need a doctor's referral?
NO a doctor’s referral is not required to see a Physiotherapist at Coogee Physio (as we are a private practice) and you are able to claim your appointment with your private health fund. If you are however referred by a doctor, we will communicate with them regarding your progress. We consult with a wide range of practitioners, specialists, and health professionals, and if required, will refer you on for further investigation or treatment where appropriate.
Clients approved for WorkCover and Motor Vehicle injury claims, Department of Veterans Affairs and Enhanced Primary Care programmes are also welcome but do require a doctor’s referral to commence treatment.
How long are the treatment sessions?
The initial consultation for one area/problem takes approximately 45 minutes which includes assessment and treatment of the area. If you have multiple areas or a complex problem, it is best to allow 60 minutes (please let our reception staff know this at the time of booking).
A follow-up consultation takes approximately 30 minutes. Previous patients with new injuries may be booked in for a 45-minute consultation to allow the physiotherapist to assess and treat the problem area appropriately.
Will my private health insurance cover the treatment?
If you have physiotherapy included in your private health insurance cover, part of the fee will be covered by the health fund and you will only be required to pay the gap. Remember to bring in your private health card so that we can claim on the spot for you.
Will Medicare cover the treatment cost?
No, we do not bulk bill, but, if you are eligible and referred under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) programme by your treating doctor, you can receive a rebate for a portion of our fee. Click here for Medicare’s current physio rebate/benefit.
Eligible patients can receive a maximum of 5 allied health visits per calendar year. You will be required to pay for the consultation in full. The Medicare rebate can be done on the spot and is paid directly into a chq or savings account (with your EFTPOS/Debit card).
What type of payments are accepted?
Full payment is requested at time of the consultation and can be made by cash or EFTPOS and we also accept Visa and Mastercard. HICAPS facilities for on the spot health insurance rebate are available.
*please note that our prices are subject to change without notice
What should I wear?
Wear something that is comfortable and easy to move in. We have shorts available if needed or you can bring your own.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring any relevant Doctor referral letters, scans or X-ray results, and your private insurance card so you can claim for your treatment.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
The physiotherapist will complete a thorough assessment of your complaints and then provide you with a preliminary diagnosis.
Appropriate treatment/referral will then be prescribed based on the assessment findings. Your treatment may involve:
- advice
- exercise programs to improve mobility and strengthen muscles
- joint manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain and stiffness
- muscle re-education to improve control
- soft tissue mobilisation (massage)
- dry needling
What happens if I cancel my appointment?
You will receive a reminder SMS the day before your appointment to confirm with a Y or N.
If you cannot make the appointment, we would greatly appreciate at least 24 hours notice so that we can give that appointment time to someone else.
If you miss your appointment on the day without notice, you may be charged a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the cost of your visit. Late cancellations may also incur the fee.
